On June 23rd, 2016 EDGE Project hosted the Professionals for Reform Capacity Building Event "Communicating Change” for experts who are driving the reforms’ agenda forward. This event was a first thematic event of the Professionals for Reform platform series and was
specifically designed to cover key issues the reformers are likely to encounter
in communicating and garnering public support for the reforms.
Ms. Kseniya Sydorkina, EDGE Project Deputy Director, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of investing into human capital of the reformers, who are determined to deliver change.
This training session was conducted by Ms. Yaryna Klyuchkovska, Member of Strategic Advisory Group for Support of Reforms in Ukraine. She pointed out "Reforms can happen only when the critical mass of Ukrainians buy in. Effective communication is key. To ensure that people understand and embrace change, the reformers in the government need to abandon the outdated models of mass communication and learn to conduct a dialogue where each party listens and knows how to be heard.”
Ms. Anastasiya Ringis, Journalist at Ukrainska Pravda news platform, anchor of TV-program "Plan for tomorrow” at UA:First channel, discussed the process of communicating change from the perspective of the media. She encouraged the reformers to build mutual understanding of the reforms process with the media community and develop effective communication and cooperation.
