Ukrainian maritime industry

Ukraine has 13 sea ports along it’s mainland shore and over 100 000 seamen sailing the oceans across the globe, but is Ukraine a global maritime trading power? In any case, it certainly has potential to become one. With its abundant infrastructure and government willingness to support maritime industry, Ukraine has a chance to capitalize on available resources and spur maritime shipping industry growth.

EDGE is currently supporting the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine to prepare for the audit of the International Maritime Organization. The preparatory work includes assessment of current situation, assistance in implementation of the international instruments into the national legislation framework and enhancement of public governance of maritime safety. Positive conclusions of the audit, which is due in early 2018, could send a strong signal to the international business community that Ukraine abides by the global rules and maritime shipping industry is welcome here.

Having signed a Joint Action Plan on Maritime Safety, EDGE is glad to provide Canadian expertise from Transport Canada (Mr.Toni Becherrawi, Senior Maritime Safety Inspector) coupled with 6 local experts to further preparations to the audit and enhancing maritime safety in Ukraine.
